A few months ago, Salt-Gallery.com and Walsh Metal Works Gallery in St. Croix decided to ask the British underwater sculptor Jason de Caires Taylor if he would visit us here for a bit, to talk about his art and breath in the fresh sea air. He agreed, and we have sent out the following announcement to our friends and the media in the Virgin Islands. Please join us if you can.

Jason de Caires Taylor to present; Q&A to follow

A presentation & discussion at Walsh Metal Works Gallery with UK sculptor Jason de Caires Taylor, creator of the world’s first underwater sculpture park, in Moliniere Bay, Grenada, West Indies.

Taylor’s works are designed to create artificial reefs for marine life to colonize and inhabit, and change over time with the transformations wrought by ecological processes. His most recent work has been placed underwater along the river Stour in Canterbury, UK.

Taylor’s life-size sculptures have a demonstrated capacity to enhance natural marine habitats. They also promote regional identity and culture through extensive media coverage and provide an avenue for the exploration of the context of art in our society.
