salt-gallery.com introduces Phoenix-based artist Kathy Taylor and her new collection ‘Equus Caballus’ at Maufé Gallery in Christiansted 5-8 pm on Thursday, March 20, 2008. This is Taylor’s first exhibit on St. Croix and the first collaboration between online salt-gallery.com and Maufé Gallery. The exhibit will be on display until April 12, 2008. Please see the flyer here or below, designed by Chris Blair out in Sausalito, CA. On the night of the opening, there will be refreshments as well as musical entertainment provided by members of the Crucian band ‘Siete Son’.
Trusting her own abilities to adventure, Kathy Taylor never starts a painting with a pre-conceived idea of the outcome. She finds that her most powerful creation takes place when she lets the brush grasp her soul and lead it into the subject matter. Kathy says this about her work: “The basis for each painting is the on-going search for spiritual truth in a sometimes harsh and chaotic world.” She finds solace and presence in painting and she considers it a step in self-realization.
Taylor has displayed in several galleries in California, the Southwest & Europe and considers her main inspiration abstract expressionism. She uses symbols in her paintings to further involve the viewer in his or her own interpretation of the subject. Heavy texture and divergent surfaces are a large part of her unique style.
Equus Caballus is the Latin name for horse, as it is the predominant subject matter for this exhibition. The body of work will contain pieces previously on display at salt-gallery.com and new works on display for the first time, here on St. Croix.
Kathy Taylor was born in Southern California and has been painting for the past 25 years. She is the Art Director for MTAP, a collaborative art project that combines creative expression with family ritual. Maufé Gallery is a Christiantsed, St. Croix gallery displaying art by such talent as Roy Lawaetz and Christina Gasperi, managed by artist Therese Trudeau. Online creative project salt-gallery.com is a digital gallery and brokerage directed by creative entrepreneur Tomas Lanner featuring artists from the Caribbean Basin, Europe, and the US mainland.
